Biography of Daniel W Sedwick quoted from HISTORY OF MERCER COUNTY2

"Major Dan W. SEDWICK, farmer, Suez Twp., Mercer County, was born in Mercer County, Penn., July 31, 1834, a son of Washington and Elizabeth (Koener) Sedwick, natives of Pennsylvania. Mr. Sedwick came to Mercer County in 1855 and located at Bridger's Corners. Aug. 7, 1862, he enlisted in Company E, One Hundred and Second Illinois Volunteer Infantry, and upon the organization of the company he was elected Lieutenant, afterwards Captain, and later brevetted Major by President Lincoln. Mr. Sedwick took part in the battles of Resaca, New Hope Church, Kenesaw, Burnt Hickory, Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta and was with Geo. Sherman on his memorable "March to the Sea," and at Hilton Head, S.C., was given command of a regiment on detached duty. He rejoined his command at Goldboro, N.C. and moved on to Washington, where he took part in the "Grand Review," and was mustered out June 6, 1865. After the close of the war he returned to Bridger's Corners, where he was in the mercantile business from 1865 to 1870. In 1869 he purchased his present farm, and has since made it his home, devoting himself to general farming and stock raising. On Sept. 3, 1857, he was married to Frances A., daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Bridger, and of this union six children have been born, viz.: Ida E., widow of William R. Cameron; Cora A., wife of W.S. McCreight; Henry D., deceased; Edwin E., a farmer of Suez Twp; Bertram B., deceased, and Fanny M., at home. Politically Mr. Sedwick is a Republican, and has been Supervisor of Suez Twp. for fifteen years; was chairman of the Board of Supervisors and of the Building Committee during the building of the Mercer County Court House; represented Mercer and Henderson Counties in the House of Representatives in 1865-6, and was Justice of the Peace for several terms. Member of Viola Post, No. 44, G.A.R."
