I cannot determine from the census records Charles' true birthdate. Birthdates calculated from his age each decade vary from 1862 to 1865 or 1866, and even in the 1900 census when Charles gives a birth date of October 1862, there is reason to believe that he is untruthful to hide the fact that his wife is older than he.
