John Sidgwick, son of John Sidgswick (ca 1805 - 1865) and Elizabeth "Betty" Mangham (ca 1809 - 1882), was born May 13, 1841 and baptized May 17 at Conistone, Yorks, England. He married Alice Wilkinson of Kettlewell, Yorks, November 13, 1869 at St Mary's Church at Kettlewell. She was the daughter of Anthony Wilkinson, farmer, of Kettlewell, born June 9, 1849 Walden, Yorks, England (near West Burton).
As listed on the birth records of his children, John was a farmer in 1870, an innkeeper between 1873-1880 (His father had been an innkeeper.), a Publican 1882 - 1887 (another name for an innkeeper), and a butcher in 1889.
John and Alice arrived at the Port of New York on November 2, 1889 on the White Star Line ship "City of Chicago." They brought six children with them, three having died in England. They settled in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where their tenth child Maude Lizzie was born and died. They later moved to Grover, Weld County, Colorado, where John died April 5, 1918. Alice died March 16, 1929 at Sterling, Logan, Colorado. John, Alice and Maude Lizzie are buried at Lakeview Cemetery, Cheyenne, Laramie, Wyoming.
Alice's parents Anthony and Alice Wilkinson immigrated to Wyoming, too. In fact, it appears to have been Alice's brother Anthony who led the way. By the 1900 census, Alice's mother Alice Wilkinson is widowed, living with son Anthony in Egbert, Laramie, Wyoming, and reports her immigration as 1890, while Anthony reports his as 1873.
